Alex Buckley, Craig Murdoch - Catalyst IT and Auckland University of Technology
Abstract
In 2023 the Auckland University of Technology (AUT), in Aotearoa New Zealand, ran two large and very different technical projects with VuFind. VuFind was integrated with both Koha and DSpace and delivered an academic library search platform and a world-first rainbow collection research portal. This presentation will cover:
-
How is VuFind being used in both of these projects.
-
Why AUT chose to use VuFind in both of these projects.
-
And what were the technical challenges that the support partner Catalyst supported AUT to resolve.
Speaker Biography
Alex - I’m a software developer at Catalyst IT, where I started as an intern 8 ago. I work on three different open source collection management platforms: Koha, DSpace and VuFind. My passion is in end-user training and consultation. I love sharing my knowledge of these systems with users and in turn learn from our users how these systems should continue to evolve.
Craig - I look after the Digital Development Team at Te Mātāpuna Library & Learning Services, AUT. We manage our Koha, VuFind, DSpace and Open Journal Systems instances. I’m interested in how open source software in libraries can create genuinely better products for users, a more satisfying work experience for staff, and collaboration that breaks down borders and barriers.
