Dispatches from KOhio: CCPL's first two years in the Koha community

Speakers

Kristi Krueger - Cuyahoga County Public Library

Abstract

CCPL migrated to Koha in August 2023. I joined the system in October 2022 as the ILS librarian and have been learning Koha and engaging with the community since.

This presentation will begin with a reflection on different ways to become involved in the community through joining user groups, submitting and signing off on bugs, and contributing to documentation. If I can do it, you can, too!

It will also include an overview of developments our system has sponsored recently and why we felt they were important to our system and other libraries. As a system with 27 branches that are open 7 days a week, over 400,000 patrons, and over 1 million items, we have a unique perspective on our needs for an ILS.

Some of the developments we have sponsored that may be discussed include from 24.11: More specific permissions for purchase suggestions (bug 33363), Allow checkout fine limit to be determined by patron category (bug 28924), refunding lost fees when marking claims return (33292), and adding prep time on bookings (34440), as well as developments expected in 25.05: Ability to move a hold to a new record or item (31698) and retaining bib info on deleted items in patrons’ hold history (38395). Depending on how work progresses on ILL platform integrations, that may be a possible topic, too.
